A crew member died after the offshore support vessel VOS Sailor suffered damage following severe weather conditions in the Balmoral Field off Aberdeen, UK, yesterday morning.
Eleven of the 12 crew onboard have been evacuated from the ship by Coast Guard by helicopters and have been transported to Aberdeen hospital.
The Coast Guard informed that at the time of the incident winds in the area were reported to be Southeasterly 60-75 knots with 6.5 metre seas.
The owner of the vessel, Vroon Offshore Services, has said that the company is in the process of contacting the next of kin of the crew of VOS Sailor.
“The company’s Emergency Repsonse team has mustered and – in close coordination with the Maritime Coast Guard Agency – is taking all measures to bring the vessel back under control,” the company said in a statement.
